X-component of force.

Solution:

A force at an angle 30° with Y-axis will have two components,

  • X-component
  • Y-component

according to the theorem of vectors, "If a vector(v) makes an angle x with y-axis,

  • its y component = vcos(x)
  •      x component = vsin(x) "

Therefore,

X-component of force 500N at angle 30° with y = -500 sin(30)

    = 500 (1/2) {since force acting is in 2nd quadrant and sine is positive}

    = 250 N
