Given info : A 50 kg skydiver jumps from a height of 20m.

To find : The kinetic energy and potential energy when he is halfway down.

solution : when skydiver is halfway down.

height of skydiver from ground, h = 10 m

mass of skydiver, m = 50 kg

potential energy = mgh

= 50kg × 10 m/s² × 10 m

= 5000 J

Therefore the potential energy of skydiver is 5000 J.

velocity at height, h = 10m :

v² = u² + 2gh

= 0² + 2(10)(10)

= 200

v = 10√2 m/s

kinetic energy of skydiver = 1/2 mv²

= 1/2 × 50 kg × (10√2 m/s)²

= 25 × 200

= 5000 J

Therefore the kinetic energy of skydiver is 5000 J.
