By using Law of Conservation of Momentum

- Mass of Gun × Recoil Velocity = Mass of Bullet × Velocity of Bullet

- 5 kg × RV = 15 g × 1000 m/s

- 5 kg × RV = 0.015 kg × 1000 m/s

- 5 kg × RV = 15 kg m/s

RV = - 3 m/s

So, the recoil velocity of the gun is 3 m/s towards left.

The Velocity of the recoil of the gun is 3m/s.

Given:-

Mass of gun = 5kg

Mass of bullet = 15g

Velocity of bullet = 1000m/s

To Find:-

The Velocity of the recoil of the gun.

Solution:-

We can simply calculate the velocity of the recoil of the gun by using these simple steps.

As

Mass of gun (Mg) = 5kg = 5000g

Mass of bullet (Mb) = 15g

Velocity of bullet (Vb) = 1000m/s

Velocity of recoil of gun (Vg) =?

According to the law of conservation of momentum,

initial momentum = final momentum

(p)i = (p)f

(p)g = (p)b

Mg \times Vg =Mb  \times Vb

on putting the values, we get

5000 \times Vg = 15 \times 1000

5000 \times Vg = 15000

Vg =  \frac{15000}{5000}

Vg  =  \frac{15}{5}

Vg = 3

Hence, The Velocity of the recoil of the gun is 3m/s.
