velocity of the mass after 5 sec = u+at = 98-9.8[5] = 98-49 = 49 ms⁻¹

initial momentum = 5[49]

final momentum = 2[55]+3[x]         [ x be the velocity of 3 kg mass ]

according to the law of conservation of linear momentum

initial momentum = final momentum

5[49] = 2[55]+3[x]

245=110+3x

3x = 245-110 = 135

x = 135/3 = +45 ms⁻¹ [ +ve sign indicates the 3 kg mass is also travels upward ]
