Area of the lawn = Area of outer rectangle - Area of inner rectangle. --- (1)
Measure of outer rectangle = length = 60 + 5 + 5 = 70m.
Width = 30 + 5 + 5 = 40m.
Area of outer rectangle = length * width
= 70 * 40
= 2800 sq.m. --- (2)
Area of inner rectangle is given directly = 60 * 30 = 1800 sq.m. -- (3)
Substitute (2) and (3) in (1), we get
Area of lawn = 2800m - 1800
= 1000 sq.m.
Hope this helps! :)
