A 6-pole lap-wound d.c. generator has 600 conductors on its armature.
The flux per pole is 0.02 Wb. Calculate (i) the speed at which the generator
must be run to generate 300 volts. (ii) what would be the speed if the
generator were wave-wound?

Answer:

(i) 1500 rpm

(ii) 500 rpm

Explanation:

Given:

~ Using Eg= \frac{PZ\phi N }{60a}

P = 6 ; Lap Wound DC

Z = 600 Conductors

∅ = 0.02 Wb

(i) Speed of generator at 300 V

     300 = \frac{(6)(600)(0.02)N}{(60)(6)}

     N = 1500 rpm, Lap Wound

(ii) 300 = \frac{(6)(600)(0.02)N}{(60)(2)}

    N = 500 rpm, Wave Wound
