Answer:

1) 30% of 60L = 18

remaining = 42 L

in 50L tank , 42/50×100 = 84%

2) petrol used daily = 2.8L

10 days =2.8×10

=28L

percentage = 28/42×100

=66.6 %

If a 60 litre tank was full of petrol, and Peter used 30% of it and poured the rest into a 50 litre tank, then

Percent of 50 litre tank filled with petrol = 84%

Percent of petrol in the 50 litre tank used in 10 days, if Peter used 2.8 litres of petrol daily = 66.67%

Given:

i) A 60 litre tank was full of petrol

ii) Peter used 30% of it and poured the rest into a 50 litre tank.

To find:

(1) Percent of 50 litre tank filled with petrol

(ii) Percent of petrol in the 50 litre tank used in 10 days, if Peter used 2.8 litres of petrol daily.

Solution:

(i)

Amount of tank filled initially = 60 litre

Amount of petrol used by Peter = 30% = (30/100)*60

                                                                 = 18 litres.

Therefore,

the amount of petrol poured into 50 litre tank = 60 - 18

                                                                             = 42 litres

Therefore,

Percent of 50 litre tank filled with petrol = (42/50)*100

                                                                   = 84%

(ii)

Peter used 2.8 litres of petrol daily, it implies that in 10 days he will use up: (2.8) * 10 = 28 litres

The amount of petrol used up by Peter in 10 days = (28/42)*100

                                                                                    = 66.67%

Hence,

If a 60 litre tank was full of petrol, and Peter used 30% of it and poured the rest into a 50 litre tank, then

Percent of 50 litre tank filled with petrol = 84%

Percent of petrol in the 50 litre tank used in 10 days, if Peter used 2.8 litres of petrol daily = 66.67%
