A 6g pellet is fired from a 360g gun. If the speed of the recoiling gun is 10m/s, what is
the speed of the pellet?

mass of gun(M) = 360g = 0.36kg   ,      velocity of gun(V)= 10 m/s

mv = -MV  (newton's third law)

substituting values,

0.006 x v =  -0.36 x 10

v = -3.6/0.006    =  -3600/6   =  -600m/s

( note: negative sign indicates that the direction of motion of pellet is opposite to that of gun)
