In the above Question , the following information is given -

A 72L mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 7:5.

To find -

How much more milk is to be added to the mixture so that the new ratio of milk and water becomes 9:5?

Solution -

Here , A 72L mixture contains milk and water in the ratio 7:5.

Let the amount of milk and water in the mixture be 7x and 5x respectively .

So ,

7x + 5x = 72

=> 12x = 72

=> x = 6

Amount of milk in the mixture

=> 7x

=> 42 litres .

Amount of water In the mixture -

=> 5x

=> 32 litres.

Now , let the amount of milk that is added = x litres.

=> [ 42 + x ] / [ 32 ] = [ 9 / 5 ]

=> 5 ( 42 + x ) = 32 × 9

=> 210 + 5x = 288

=> 5x = 78

=> x = 15.4 litres.

This is the required answer .
