Total length of stick → 73m

Let the shorter length be x

Longer length → 2x + 16

According To Question →

( x ) + ( 2x + 16 ) = 73

→ x + 2x + 16 = 73

→ 3x + 16 = 73

→ 3x = 73 - 16

→ 3x = 57

→ x = 57

           3

→ x = 19m

Shorter piece → x → 19m

Longer piece → 2x + 16 → 2(19) + 16

                       → 38 + 16 → 54m

A piece of rope is 7m 20cm long. It is cut into 2 pieces. One piece is shorter than the other by 1m 80cm. Find the length of the shorter piece.

\bf\underline{Given:}

  • A 73 meters long stick
  • Cut into 2 pieces

\bf\underline{Solution:}

Let shorter piece be x.

Longer piece =  2x + 16 m

x + 2x + 16 m = 73 m

=> 3x + 16 m = 73

=> 3x = 73-16

=> 3x = 57

=> x = \frac{57}{3}

=> x = 19 m

\\

 x = 19 m Ans.

 2x + 16 m= 2×19 + 16

=> 38 + 16 m

=> 54 m Ans.
