Given: mass of body = 8kg

            momentum of body = 30kgms⁻¹

            Force = 20N

            Time for which force acts = 5second

To find : (a) impulse of the forces

              (b) change of momentum of the body

              (c) final momentum of the body

              (d) final velocity of the body

Solution:

(a) Impulse of the force = Force × time for which force acts

                                       = 20 × 5

                                      = 100 Ns

Therefore, the impulse of the force is 100Ns and its direction is in the east.

(b) Change of momentum of the body is the impulse of the force.

Therefore, the change of momentum is 100Ns

(c) Change of momentum is 100Ns

  initial momentum = 30kgms⁻¹

change in momentum = final momentum - initial momentum

100 = final momentum - 30

Therefore, the final momentum of the body is 130kgms⁻¹

(d) Final momentum of the body is 130kgms⁻¹

momentum = mass × velocity

130 = 8 × velocity

Therefore, the final velocity of the body is 16.25ms⁻¹
