Dear Student,

◆ Answer -

Acceleration = 1.944 m/s²

● Explanation -

Total mass of the train is calculated as -

Total mass = mass of engine + mass of wagons

Total mass = 8000 + 5×2000

Total mass = 18000 kg

Resultant force that involves in acceleration is -

Accelerating force = Force exerted by engine - Frictional force by track

Accelerating force = 40000 - 5000

Accelerating force = 3500 N

So now, acceleration of train is calculated as -

Acceleration = Force / mass

Acceleration = 35000 / 18000

Acceleration = 1.944 m/s²

Therefore, acceleration of the train is 1.944 m/s².
