When the resistance is cut into three equal parts, then new resistance, i.e. R = 9/3 = 3 Ohm.

As the new arrangement is in parallel,

Therefore, 1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3

1/R = 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3

1/R = 9/3 = 3

Thus, equivalent resistance = 3 ohm.

"Equivalent resistance of the combination is 3 ohm.

Here, we have 9 ohm Resistance that is cut into three equal parts. It means the new resistance of each part will be;

R^{\prime \prime}\quad =\quad \frac { 9 }{ 3 } \quad =\quad 3\quad \Omega

In case of parallel arrangement the resultant resistance will be;

\frac { 1 }{ R } \quad =\quad \frac { 1 }{ R_{ 1 } } \quad +\quad \frac { 1 }{ R_{ 2 } } \quad +\quad \frac { 1 }{ R_{ 3 } }

Plug the value of each part of resistance to calculate  the resultant resistance;

\frac { 1 }{ R } \quad =\quad \frac { 1 }{ 3 } \quad +\quad \frac { 1 }{ 3 } \quad +\quad \frac { 1 }{ 3 }

\frac { 1 }{ R } \quad =\quad \frac { 9 }{ 3 } \quad =\quad 3"
