Given :- five three digit numbers : 374, 659, 821, 945, 247 .

To Find :- If 1 is subtracted from the last digit of each numbers how many numbers thus formed is divisible by two? (a) None (b) one (C) two (d) three (e) four .

Concept used :- Divisibility rule of 2 :-

  • If unit of a number is 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 the given number is divisible by 2 .

Solution :-

Subtracting 1 from unit of given numbers we get,

a) 374

→ 374 - 1 = 373 = Unit digit 3 .

since unit digit of number is not 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 . The number so formed is not divisible by two .

b) 659

→ 659 - 1 = 658 = Unit digit 8 .

since unit digit of number is 8 . The number so formed is divisible by two .

c) 821

→ 821 - 1 = 820 = Unit digit 0 .

since unit digit of number is 0 . The number so formed is divisible by two .

d) 945

→ 945 - 1 = 944 = Unit digit 4 .

since unit digit of number is 4 . The number so formed is divisible by two .

e) 247

→ 247 - 1 = 246 = Unit digit 6 .

since unit digit of number is 6 . The number so formed is divisible by two .

Therefore, we can conclude that total (e) four number so formed are divisible by two .

Shortcut :- Check the given number as even or odd number .

  • Odd number - 1 = Divisible by two .
  • Even number - 1 = Not divisible by two .
