Explanation:

Given A 95 Kg halfback makes a turn on the football field. The halfback sweeps out a path that is a portion of a circle with a radius of 12-meters. The halfback makes a quarter of a turn around the circle in 2.1 seconds. Determine the speed, acceleration and net force acting upon the halfback.

  • Mass m = 95 kg
  • Radius R = 12 m
  • So around the circle is circumference,
  • Makes 1/4th of the circumference in 2.1 secs
  • So the equation v = d/t
  •                             = (¼ x 2 x π x R) / t
  •                              = ½ x 3.14 x 12 / 2.1
  •                              = 6 x 3.14 / 2.1
  •                         V = 8.97 m/s
  • Now for acceleration of halfback the equation will be
  •                              a = v^2 / R
  •                                 = (8.97)^2 / 12
  •                                 = 80.4609 / 12
  •                               a = 6.705075 m/s^2
  • Now to find the net force acting on the halfback we get
  •                     Net force F = m x a
  •                                        = 95 kg x 6.705075 m/s^2
  •                                        = 636.98 N
