a(a+b)=36
a^2+ab=36----(1)
ba+b^2=64----(2)
by adding 1 and 2 we get
a^2+2ab+b^2=100
(a+b)^2=100
taking square root
a+b=10
by subtracting 2 from1
a^2-b^2=28
(a+b)(a-b)=-28
substituting (a+b) by 10
then
(a-b)=-28/10=-2.8
