(a) A NaCl solution is prepared by mixing 8g of NaCl (MW = 58.5 g/mol) with 250mL of H2O. Calculate the molarity.

solution : no of moles of NaCl = mass of NaCl/molar mass of NaCl

= 8/58.5 = 0.137 mol

molarity of NaCl solution = no of moles of NaCl/volume of solution in L

= 0.137 mol/(250/1000 L)

= 0.548 M

molarity of the solution is 0.548 M.

(b) A KCl solution is prepared by mixing 5g of KCl with 200g of H2O. Calculate the percent (m/M) of the solution.

solution : mass of KCl = 5 g

mass of H2O = 200 g

mass of solution = mass of KCl + mass of H2O

= 5g + 200g = 205 g

so, percentage of (w/W) of the solution = mass of solute( KCl)/mass of solution × 100

= 5/205 × 100

= 500/205

= 2.44 %

Therefore percentage (w/W) of the solution is 2.44 %.
