a) A solution contains 40 g of common salt in 320 g of water. Calculate the concentration

in terms of mass by mass percentage of the solution.

b) Write the boiling point of Oxygen and Argon.

c) Why Crystallisation technique is better than simple evaporation?

a) Mass (solute) = 40 gram

Mass (solvent) = 320 gram

Mass (solution) = Mass (solute) + Mass (solvent)

                         = 40 gram + 320 gram

                         = 360 gram

∴ Mass % (solution) = [ Mass (solute)/Mass (solvent)] × 100

                                 = [40/360] × 100

                                 = 11.1 %

b)Oxygen, argon  boil at –182°C, –186°C respectively

c)Crystallization is a process that separates a pure solid in the form of its crystals from a solution. Crystallization is better than evaporation because during Evaporation:1) Some solids decompose or some, like sugar may get charred on heating to dryness.
