Let the age of A = x yrs, B = y yrs
Since their ages differ by 2 yrs ,
x-y = 2 (assuming that b is elder) → (1)
A's father (D) is twice as old as A,
D = 2x
B is twice as old as C.
∴ Age of C ⇒ 1/2 age of B = 1/2 y yrs
Also the age of C and D differ by 40 yrs
⇒2x - y/2 = 40
⇒4x - y =80 → (2)
solvign (1) and (2)
x-y-4x+y = 2 - 80
- 3x = -78
⇒ x = 26 yrs ⇒ A's age
substituting x in (1),
26 -2 = y
⇒y = 24 ⇒B's age
