let the ages of A and B be x and y years respectively

according to the first condition

x-y =2 .................1

but,

D=2x and y=2C
y/2=C
now,according to the second given condition

D-C=40
2x-y/2=40
4x-y=80................2

lets subtract equation 1 from 2

x-y=2
-
4x-y=80
- + -
-3x=-78
x=-78/-3
x=26

put x=26 in equation 1

x-y=2
26-y=2
y=24
so the ages of A and B are 26 and 24 years respectively.
