A and b are two points 150 km apart on a highway two cars start from a and b at the same time .if they move un the same ditection they meet in 15 hours.but if they move in opposite direction,they meet in 1 hour.find their speed

Here is the answer.

When travelling in same direction :
Let distance covered by b is x km in time 15 h
so, Distance covered by a =150+x km in same time 15 h

So, speed of b=x/15 km/h
and speed of a= (150+x)/15 km/h

When travelling in opposite direction :
Time taken by both a and b= 1 h
so, distance travelled by b in 1 h = x/15 ×1 km
=x/15 km
& distance travelled by a in 1h=(150+x)/15×1km
=(150+x)/15 km

as the sum of distance travelled by both a and b = distance between them at the start =150km

so,x/15 + (150+x)/15 =150
or, {x+(150+x)} /15 =150
or, x+150+x =150×15
or, 2x+150=2250
or, 2x=2250-150=2100
so, x=2100/2=1050

Hence,speed of b=x/15
=1050/15 km/h
=70km/h................{speed of b}

& speed of a=(150+x)/15
=(150+1050)/15 km/h
=1200/15 =80km/h.....{speed of a}
