Step-by-step explanation:

A and B can complete a piece of work in 12 days and 18 days respectively. Then,

Part of work per day by A and B is 1/12 and 1/18 respectively.

Let n days be required to complete the work. (1 unit)

They alternate on it at a time for one day each. i.e. A and B each work for n/2 days.

Their total work = (n /2) [(1/12)+(1/18)], which is 1.

(n /2) [(1/12)+(1/18)] = 1

(n/24)+ (n/36) =1

n= 72/5

Each of them worked for 72/10 days.

Ans: Whole work will be completed in 14.4 days, which means 14 days and 8 hours.
