They can do it in 3 days.

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we have given that

Number of days in which A and B can do work = 4 days

Number of days in which C and D can do work = 12 days

Total work done = lcm of 4 and 12 = 12

Work done by A and B = \dfrac{12}{4}=3

Work done by C and D = \dfrac{12}{12}=1

So, Number of days A, B, C and D can do altogether is given by

\dfrac{12}{3+1}\\\\=\dfrac{12}{4}\\\\=3

Hence, they can do it in 3 days .
