A can do a piece of work in 6 days

So,

He will complete 1/6 part of work in 1 day

B can do a piece of work in 4 days

So,

He will complete 1/4 part of work in 1 day

When they both work together then they can complete the work in let us assume x days

So,

1/x = 1/4 + 1/6

x= (6×4)/10

x=2.4

They can both complete the work in 2.4 days

Now,

A has already worked for 2 days so , he has completed 1/3 part of the work

Now, the part of work remaining is

=1-1/3

=2/3

So,

They both can complete a work in 2.4 days so, they will complete 2/3 part of the work in (2/3) × (2.4)

=8/5 days

Hence the total number of days required = 8/5 +2

=18/5

Therefore they will require a total of 18/5 days to complete the job
