A and B can do a work in 6 and 12 day respectively. They began the work together but A leave after 3 days. Then the total number of days needed for the completion of the work is

Work done by A in 1 day = 1/6

Work done by B in 1 day = 1/12

Work done by A and B in 1 day 1/6 + 1/12 = 1/4

A and B worked together for the initial 3 days = 3/4

Remaining work = 1/4

Time taken by B to complete this remaining work 1/4 / 1/12 = 3

Total number of days = 3 + 3 = 6(Ans.)
