A and B can finish a piece of work in 6 and 4 days respectively then A started the work and work for 2 days he was then joined by B find the total number of time taken to finish the work

Let say W is piece of Work to be done

6A = W

4B = W

6A =W

2A = (W/6A)*2A = W/3

Remaining work = W-W/3 = 2W/3

A & B together can do in 1 day = W/6 + W/4 =  5W/12

5W/12 is done in 1 day

2W/3 is done in  = (1/(5W/12))* (2W/3)

= (12/5W)*(2W/3)

= 24/15 = 8/5 days

total days = 2 + 8/5 = 18/5 = 3.6 Days
