The total profit was Rs 28000.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the amount of money invested by B be Rs x for y months

Thus, his investment would be x*y

According to the question;

A invested Rs 3x for 2y months

His investment would be 3x * 2y

The ratio of the investment of A and B = (3x * 2y) / x*y

                                    = 6xy /xy

                             = 6 : 1

The profit derived by B was Rs 4000

Hence, the profit derived by A would be 6 times the profit derived by B = 6 x 4000 = Rs 24000

The total profit = Profit of A + Profit of B

 = 24000 + 4000

 = 28000

Thus, the total profit noted in the firm was Rs 28000.
