Answer:

8 months

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Investment of A = Rs. 4000

Investment of B = Rs. 6000

Investment of C = Rs. 5000

Profit of A = Rs. 240

Profit of C = Rs. 100

Concept used:

Profit = Investment × Time

Calculation:

C joins them after x months

So, C invests for (12 - x) months

Ratio of profit of A, B and C = 4000 × 12 : 6000 × 12 : 5000 × (12 - x)

⇒ 48 : 72 : (60 - 5x)

Let the profit of A, B and C be 48y, 72y, (60 - 5x)y respectively.

According to question:

48y = 240

⇒ y = 5

Now,

Profit of C = (60 - 5x)y = (60 - 5x)5 = 300 - 25x

Now, 300 - 25x = 100

⇒ 25x = 300 - 100

⇒ 25x = 200

⇒ x = 8 months

∴ Value of x is 8 months
