A and B together can do a piece of work in 6 days. If A can do it alone in 8 days, in how many days can B do it?

Let’s call a the amount of work done in one day by A

Let’s call b the amount of work done in one day by B

Since A does the job in 8 days alone, we know that A does 1/8 of the job per day, thus a=1/8

Since together they do it in 6 days, this means that together they do 1/6 of the job per day, thus: a+b=1/6

a+b=1/6

1/8+b=1/6

b=1/6–1/8

b=1/24

This means that B does 1/24 of the job per day

Therefore alone B would do the job in 24 days.

Nota: B is 3x slower than A, in other words when they work together A does 3/4 of the job…
