A and B together can do a piece of work in 9 days. If A does thrice the work of B in a given time, the time A alone will take to finish the work is​

Let days taken by A and B to complete work is x days and y days respectively.

So in one day A and B do (1/x) and (1/y) of total work.

Hence: 1/x +1/y = 1/9

Also since A does thrice work as compared to B so y = 3x.

So 1/3x +1/x = 1/9

So 4/3x = 1/9

hence x = 12 days

So y = 3x = 36 days.

So A alone will complete work in 12 days.
