Explanation:

Let B take x number of days.

A and B together take 12 days, meaning they complete 1/12 of the work in one day.

Similarly, A completes the work alone in 20 days, meaning he completes 1/20 of the work in one day.

Finally, B completes the work in x days, which means that he completes 1/x of the work in one day.

Work done by A and B together in 1 day = Work done by A alone in 1 day + Work done by B alone in 1 day

==>  \frac{1}{12}=\frac{1}{20}+\frac{1}{x}

==> \frac{1}{12}=\frac{20+x}{20x}

==> 20x = 12(20+x)

==> 20x = 240 + 12x

==> 20x - 12x = 240

==> 8x = 240 ==> x = \frac{240}{8}

∴ x = 30

Hence, B takes 30 days to finish the work alone.

Answer: 30 days

I hope this helps. :D
