Answer:

A and B one day work = 1/20

portion of work completed by them in 15 days working together

=> 1/20*15 = 15/20 = 3/4

remaining work after 15 days

=> 1 - 3/4 = 1/4

[ total work has to be taken as one unit ]

Remaining work of 1/4 completed by

A = 10 days

=> A's one day work = 1/4*1/10 = 1/40

therefore reciprocal of A's one day work gives number of days required to complete the work

reciprocal of A's one day work = 40

hence A alone can complete the work on 40 days
