Answer:

the percentage in increase of the salaries of A and B is 6%.

Step-by-step explanation:

Assumption,

Let the salaries of A, and B be 'x'.

Given,

Increase in salary of A is 40% two times.

Increase in salary of B is 90 %

To find,

The percentage difference in the increase in the salaries of A, and B.

Calculation,

Step(1):

Increase in salary of A for the first time is 40% of x

i.e. \frac{40}{100} \times (x) = 0.4x

Now the new salary of A is (x + 0.4x) = 1.4x

If the salary of A got hiked for 2nd time

Then the increase in the salary is 40% of 1.4x

i.e. \frac{40}{100} \times (1.4x) = 0.56x

Hence, the new salary of A is (1.4x + 0.56x) = 1.96x

Therefore, the total hike in salary of A is (1.96x - x) = 0.96x...(1)

Step(2):

Increase in salary of B is 90 % of x

i.e. \frac{90}{100} \times (x) = 0.9x...(2)

Therefore, the new salary of B is (x + 0.9x) = 1.9x

Now equation (1) - equation (2) will get difference in the in the hikes of the salaries.

⇒ 1.96x - 0.9x = 0.06x

Now the percentage in increase of the salaries of A and B is:

\frac{0.06x}{x} \times 100

i.e. 6%

Therefore, the percentage in increase of the salaries of A and B is 6%.
