Given that A and b working together can do a piece of work in 6 days.

B alone can do it in 8 days.

B can do in one day 1/8 of the work

A & B together can do in one 1/6 of the work

We subtract B alone work from the work together to get the part of A alone in one day.

Hence A alone can do in one day 1/6-1/8 = 1/24 of the work

In other words for finishing full work A requires 24 days.
