Answer:

A.1) Litmus paper, China rose, and tumeric can be used as indicators.

B.1) All Alkalis are bases because they will all neutralize acids, but not all bases are alkalis because not all bases will dissolve in water.

2) You can identify acids or base by using red or blue litmus paper.

-If the blue paper changes to red or red paper remains red then the soluion is acidic.

-If the red paper changes to blue or blue paper remains blue then the solution is basic.

3) a) Ca(OH)2 + 2HNO3_____Ca(NO3)2 + 2H2O.

b) 2CH3COOH + Ca(OH)2 _____ Ca(CH3COO)2 + 2H2O.

c) HCL + NaOH ____ H2O + NaCL.

d) 2NH4OH + H2SO4 ____ (NH4)2SO4 + 2H2O.

4) Neutral salts result from a strong acid being mixed with a strong base. Its Ph is about 5-7. Eg: Sodium chloride, Sulphate, Nitrate.

Acidic salts are those salts formed when a strong acid reacts with a weak base. Its Ph is about less than 7. Eg: Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Biosulphate.

Basic salts are formed from the mixture of a strong base and a weak acid. Its Ph is about greater than 7. Eg: Calcium carbonate, Sodium acetate, Potassium cyanide.

5) Materials: small LED diode, 2 small button batteries, copper wires or electrical wires with alligator clips, scoth tape, pure water and salt.

Instructions:

i} Fill the small container with pure water.

ii} Add salt into the pure water.

iii} Using the electrical wires, connect the LED light and batteries to build an open simple circuit.

iv} Dip the two open ends into the water.

v} Now see if the LED bulb lights up.

Explore:

The LED bulb will be brighter because salt water conduct electricity as salt can easily contribute ions when dissolve in water.
