1.The wall offers symbolic protection, securing our physical, social, and economic wellbeing. For others, the symbolic wall activates opposite emotions.
2.The wall is a shadow. The speaker proclaims, “I am black.” He lies down in the shadows, which prevents the light of the dream from shining on him.
3.The wall has become a long dark shadow and has been blocking his dream. The dream being replaced by a shadow, the poet has become black. The poet lies down beside the shadow which means he feels defeated and helpless.
4.A shadow itself represents the blocking out of light and, therefore, implies the existence of some lurking darkness or source of evil
