since
a²+b²=(a+b)²-2ab,

then

a²+b²=12²-2×14,

a²-b²=144-28,

a²-b²=116

hello mate!....

given......

a + b = 12 \\ \\ ab = 14 \\ \\ we \: know.... \\ \\ (a + b) {}^{2} = a {}^{2} + b {}^{2} + 2ab \\ \\ a {}^{2} + b {}^{2} = (a + b) {}^{2} - 2ab \\ \\ \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: \: = 12 {}^{2} - 28 = 144 - 28 \\ \\ a {}^{2} + b {}^{2} = 116 \\ \\
