Answer:

I’m going to go a bit more detailed on this than other answers have.

Let’s have a look at the question shall we? What is formula (a+b)2(a+b)2?

Well, simple, expand it.

(a+b)2=(a+b)(a+b)=a(a+b)+b(a+b)=a2+ab+ba+b2(a+b)2=(a+b)(a+b)=a(a+b)+b(a+b)=a2+ab+ba+b2

Now, here’s where I’m to deviate from what most answers here have done.

What exactly are aa and bb? Are they numbers? Or are they other mathematical constructs like say tensors (or more easily understood example being matrices)?

In matrices if we define two variables aa and bb, then it’s seen that ab=/=baab=/=ba

This implies that the end answer should be, for a general case of all mathematical constructs, under the method of basic linear algebraic laws

(a+b)2=a2+ab+ba+b2
