Answer :-

a² + b² = 26

Given :-

a - b = 4

a + b = 6

To find :-

a² + b²

Solution:-

We know the identity :-

( a - b)² = ( a + b)² - 4 ab

Put the given value,

→(4)² = (6)² - 4ab

→16 - 36 = -4ab

→-20 = -4ab

→ab = -20/-4

→ab = 5

Now,

( a + b)² = a² + b² + 2ab

→( 6)² = a² + b² + 2 × 5

→36 = a² + b² +10

→36 - 10 = a² + b²

→a² + b² = 26

hence,

The value of a² + b² = 26
