i think ur qn is
a-b=4 and a+b=6
now
multiply both
(a-b)(a+b)=24
a^2-b^2=24
a^2= 24+b^2.... (1)
now
adding both
2a=10
a=5
putting value of a in (1)
we get
b=1
so
a^2+b^2=(5)^2+(1)^2
=26
and
ab= 5
