⭐GIVEN:

  • a+b=8

  • ab=12

⭐TO FIND:

  • a-b=?

⭐$OLUTION:

(a²+b²) =(a+b) ²-2ab...... (Identity)

(a²+b²)=(8) ²-2(12)

(a²+b²)=64-24

(a²+b²)=40.......... (1)

Now, By using another identity,

(a-b) ²=a²-2ab+b²......... (Identity)

(a-b) ²=a²+b²-2ab

(a-b) ²=40-2(12) ............... (From 1)

(a-b) ²=40-24

(a-b) ²=16

a-b=4...... (By taking square root on both sides)

Therefore, a-b is 4.
