Given : A, B and C invested capitals in the ratio 7: 3: 2. At the end of the business term, they received the rofits in the ratio 2:3:7.

To Find : ratio of time for which they contributed their capitals.

Solution:

Let say  Time for which they invested   Capital

is A , B  & C

7A  :  3B  :  2 C  =  2  : 3  :  7

=> 14 A : 6B : 4 C  = 2 : 3 : 7       ( multiplying LHS ratios by 7)

=> 14A  : 6B : 4 C  =  14 :  21  :  49   ( multiplying RHS ratios by 2 )

14A  = 14  => A  =  1

6B = 21   =>  B = 21/6  = 7/2

4C  =  49  => C  = 49/4

=> A : B : C   =  1  :  7/2  :  49 /4

Multiplying by 4

=> A : B : C   =  4  :  14  :  49

ratio of time for which they contributed their capitals.  = 4 : 14 : 49

Another method  7 : 3 :  2

& 2 : 3 : 7

So invested period ratio   2/7  : 3/3  : 7/2

= 2/7   :  1  : 7/2

= 4 : 14  : 49   ( multiplying by 14)
