a, b, c are zeroes of cubic polynomial x3 - 2x2 +qx -r. If a + b = 0 then show that 2q = r.

Answer:

(x-a)(x-b)(x-c)=0

x^3-(a+b+c)x^2+(ab+bc+ca)x-abc=0

comparing

a+b+c=2 but a+b=0

c=2

ab+bc+ca=q

ab+c(a+b)=q

ab=q

abc=r(on comparing)

2q=r
