when a-b divided by b-c
=a-b/b-c

(a-b)/(b-c)

If   a, b, and c are in Arithmetic progression then :   1
if a, b, c are in GP :   b = a r ,  c = a r^2
         So the ratio:     (a-ar)/(b - br) = a/b
