Binary fission- it means the unicellular organism divides into two identical daughter cells... that is in 20 minutes it divides into 2 equal halves.
so, 3 hours = 180 minutes and in 20 minutes they divide into 2 parts... a small math needed,
let the total number of cells at the end of 3 hours be 'x'
x= 2*180/20
x=18
thus we get 18 bacterium cells at the end of 3 hours!
