A bacterium divides every 35 minutes. If a culture containing 10^5 cells per ml is grown for 175 minutes, what will be the cell concentration per ml after 175 minutes? ​

Answer:

Each time the cells divide you get 2 cells where you had 1.

175 minutes / 35 minutes/division = 5 divisions

You have 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 *2 or 2^5 or 32 times as many cells as you started out with.

1 * 10^5 * 32. You simplify.
