Let E1 be the event that the ball is drawn from bag “X” and E2 be the event that the ball is drawn from bag“Y”.
Let E be the event that the ball drawn is white.
As both the bags are equally likely to be selected, we have p(E1) = ½ and P(E2) = ½
Hence, P(E/E1) = 2/5, P(E/E2) = 4/6 = 2/3
Therefore, P(E) = P(E1).P(E/E1) +P(E2).P(E/E2)
P(E) = (½). (⅖) + (½)(⅔)
P(E) = (2/10) + (2/6)
P(E) = 8/15
