A bag contains 25 paise 50 paise and rs 1 coins.there are 220 coins in all and the total amount in the bag is 160. If there are thrice as many 1 coins as there are 25 paise coins then what is the number of 50 paise coins

Let no. of 25p coin be x

so, no. of 1 rs coin = 3x

So, no. of 50 p coins = 220 - (x +3x) = 220-4x

According to question;

Total amount = 0.25x + 0.50(220-4x) + 1(3x)

or, 160 = 0.25x + 110 - 2x + 3x

or, 160 = 1.25x + 110

or, 50 = 1.25x

so, x = 50/1.25 = 40

So, no. of 50p coin = 220 - 4x

= 220 - 4×40 = 220 - 160 = 60

Hence, no. of 50p coin is 60.
