E: red ball

n(E)=3

p(E)= n(E) n(S)=3+5=8

n(S)

=3/8

It's the answer

Hope it helps

Given :

  • A bag contains 3 red balls and 5 black balls .

To Find :

  • Probability of getting a ball which is red .
  • Probability of getting a ball which is not red .

Solution :

\longmapsto\tt{Red\:Balls=3}

\longmapsto\tt{Black\:Balls=5}

\longmapsto\tt{Total\:Balls=8}

(i) Probability of getting a red ball :

\longmapsto\tt{Favourable\:Outcomes=3}

\longmapsto\tt{Probability=\frac{No.\:of\:Fav.\:Outcomes}{Total\:No.\:of\:Outcomes}}

\longmapsto\tt{\dfrac{3}{8}}

So , Probability of getting a red ball is 3/8 ...

(ii) Probability of getting a ball which is not red :

\longmapsto\tt{Total\:Balls-Red\:Balls}

\longmapsto\tt{8-3}

\longmapsto\tt{5}

\longmapsto\tt{Probability=\frac{No.\:of\:Fav.\:Outcomes}{Total\:No.\:of\:Outcomes}}

\longmapsto\tt\bf{\dfrac{5}{8}}

So ,Probability of getting a ball which is not red is 5/8 ...
