 \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{2}{5}  \: of  \: it  \: was \:  lost \:  through  \: a \:  hole \:  in \:  the \:  side \: }

TO DETERMINE

The amount of soil lost

EVALUATION

Here it is given that

 \displaystyle \sf{A \:  bag  \: contains  \:  \: 6 \: \frac{1}{4}  \:  kg \:  of \:  soil}

Now

 \displaystyle \sf{6 \: \frac{1}{4}  \:  kg \: =  \frac{25}{4}  \:  \: kg}

Also it is given that

 \displaystyle \sf{ \frac{2}{5}  \: of  \: it  \: was \:  lost \:  through  \: a \:  hole \:  in \:  the \:  side \: }

Hence the amount of soil lost

 \displaystyle \sf{{ = \frac{2}{5}   \times  \frac{25}{4} } \:  \: kg}

 \displaystyle \sf{{ = \frac{5}{2} \:  \: kg}}

 \displaystyle \sf{{ =2 \frac{1}{2} \:  \: kg}}
